Accomplishing a challenge is one of the most exhilarating moments in life. But a challenge is a challenge because it hurts. Running hurts. I started running because of the perceived and real pain that I experienced in running in my teen years. My challenge was to complete a mile without stopping. Then it was three miles. Then it was 10 miles. Then it was…you know where I’m going with this. Racing became a part of me when I crossed my first finish line. I knew I was hooked and I knew that running wasn’t only for those who finish first or second. It is also for those who finish in the middle or even last. Running is sport that can mold minds and bodies. With numerous marathons behind me, I can still confidently say that running still surprises me. It’s those surprises that keeps me going.
