Laura Langerwerf

I started running back in July 2007 when my childhood friend was in a tragic accident. She lives in Sacramento and was hit by a car while out for her morning run. She spent the next month in a coma and now, 4 years later, is still recovering from her injuries. My friend is a marathoner and since she couldn’t run (and still hasn’t since the accident) I decided that I should run for her. Thus began my running journey. I started running in July 2007 and ran my first marathon in December 2008. Since then I have run 10 marathons (3 SFMs) in 4 states including one ultra marathon. I’ve run many half marathons as well and have coached runners in my local running club, SacFIT. I’ve grown to love running. It’s a part of me now. A part of my being, a part of my every day rituals, a part of my heart. And any time I wake up and feel like not putting on my shoes and running, I think about my friend. I remember why I started doing this in the first place and remind myself that she would give anything to run again. I have the ability to do it every day. So I run. And I will keep running.. hopefully run with my friend someday… and will continue running long after. I love to run.
