All participants receive a technical fabric long-sleeved shirt.
Finishers receive a finisher’s medal, electronic finisher’s certificate, and individual care, both on and off the course and following – including food, beverage, heat sheet and availability of medical care, and post race massages.
In order to qualify as an Official Finisher, you must finish within the 6 hour course limit.
1st Half Marathon:
In order to qualify as an Official Finisher, you must finish within the 3 hour course limit.
2nd Half Marathon:
In order to qualify as an Official Finisher, you must finish within the 3.5 hour course limit.
Elite and Sub-Seeded Runners
The San Francisco Marathon invites athletes to apply for elite or sub-seeded status for our full or second half marathon. The race will distribute complimentary or discounted entries based on past performance.
Elite and Sub-Seeded Athlete bib placements are limited and these participants will receive placement in the front of the pack at the beginning of the race. The requirements and applications for Elite and Sub-Seeded registration are explained below and involve a thorough check of past performances.
Elite Athlete Requirements and Application
The first 250 athletes that meet the elite qualifying standards receive complimentary entries. Elite Athletes will also receive placement at the front of the race. Times must have been achieved in the past 2 years to be considered.
Qualifying times are listed below:
Full Marathon: Sub 2:40 / Half Marathon: Sub 1:18
Full Marathon: Sub 3:00 / Half Marathon: Sub 1:28
Sub-Seeded Athlete Requirements and Application
The first 250 athletes that meet the sub-seeded qualifying standards receive discounted entries. Sub-Seeded Athletes will also receive placement just behind the Elite Athletes at the beginning of the race. Times must have been achieved in the past 2 years to be considered.

Masters (40+) – Full Marathon: Sub 3:10 / Half Marathon: Sub 1:30

Run for a Charity Team
Run for a good cause! Participants running for charity will be given $10 off registration (discount codes distributed by charities). Click here to see a list of official and other participating charities.
We adhere to the standard road racing industry policy. All entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. This is noted on our registration application, and when you register for any of our events you must agree to this policy. You may not give or sell your number to another individual – if you do this could result in your disqualification as well as the runner who uses your race number.
The entry fee for this year’s event will not transfer to next year’s event, no exceptions. This policy stays in effect whether you are injured, have an unexpected business or family emergency, pregnancy, etc. There are no exceptions. Any inquiry regarding this policy will be directed back to this page.
In the event you cannot run the 2014 race at all, please enclose a written request with your cancellation and include your name, gender, address, and phone number. By canceling your registration you won’t receive a refund, but we will send you the race shirt after the race. Medals are not sent to those who do not actually complete the course. We do not accept emailed cancellations. We must receive your written cancellation by July 1st. If your written cancellation is received after that date, we will not be able to process it. Event Change Requests
Runners may request an event change based on the event availability. There will be a $10.00 event change fee for any event change, plus any additional registration fees if you are switching to a more expensive event. All event changes must be submitted via email, and will only be accepted until June 15th, or until events sell out. Your event change is not guaranteed until we confirm with your new bib number. Wave Change Requests
Runners may request a wave change based on wave availability. There will be a $10.00 wave change fee for any wave change. All wave change requests must be submitted via email, and will only be accepted until June 15th, or until the wave sells out. Your wave change is not guaranteed until we confirm with your new bib number. Please email [email protected] to request a wave change.
Shirt Change Requests
We will accept shirt change requests until June 1st, 2014. You must notify us via email to switch your shirt size. After June 1st you will need to pick up your assigned t-shirt size at packet pick-up and exchange it at the Finish Line on Race Day.
