Our schedule is impressive – we are bringing Olympic hopefuls, Marathon Champions, Ultra Marathon Champions, Authors and noted Brand Ambassadors! On Saturday July 27th, in the Firehouse adjacent to the main Expo building, we are honored to have some of the most talented athletes and influencers in the running community! Spend an hour with each of them as they share their experiences and wealth of knowledge, ask your burning questions and walk away with some new tips and positivity to carry with you on race day. Mo’ath Alkhawaldeh, a UCAN Ambassador, was a former smoker growing up in a country where running was considered “low class” and there weren’t lots of opportunities, but he used running to get an education in the US and now has a shot to run for Jordan in the 2020 Olympics. http://www.runforpeace.info/

10:00am – Mystical appeal the Boston Marathon

Amy Roe author of Becoming Boston Strong: One Woman’s Race to Run and Conquer the World’s Greatest Marathon which was published by Skyhorse in April and named one of the “Best Nonfiction Books to Read in 2019″ by Woman’s Day Magazine. An award-winning journalist and Senior Writer for the ACLU of Washington, Amy has run 18 marathons, including four Boston Marathons, and her writing has been featured in The Guardian and The Washington Post.

11:00am – 2019 adventures, 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 continents and running across Israel

Mike Wardian, a Hoka Athlete, is an American marathoner and ultra-marathoner. In addition to a lengthy list of podium finishes at marathons, half-marathons, 50k /100k and 100 Mile races, Michael has set world records for: Fastest time for 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days, Fastest marathon and 50K on an indoor 200-meter track and many more! 12:00pm – Training Techniques

Joe Puelo has been the head coach for men’s and women’s cross country and track and field at Rutgers University at Camden, where he produced 10 Division III All-Americans, including two individual national champions. Simultaneously, Joe spent a decade coaching the USMC’s All-Marine running program, where he coached three CISM World Championship teams for the United States Armed Forces (marathon and cross country). Joe has also coached United Olympic Trials Qualifiers in both the marathon and Javelin. He currently coaches two-time San Francisco Marathon champion and El Salvador’s National marathon record-holder, Jorge Maravilla.

Joe  is the co-author of Running Anatomy (Human kinetics 2010) and Running Anatomy 2nd edition (Human Kinetics 2018) as well as the articles “Anteriorly Rotated Pelvis: The Negative Effects for a Distance Runner” and “Anatomy of Running Footwear,” which appeared in Techniques magazine.

He has served on an international advisory panel for New Balance and is a frequent contributor to articles that have appeared in Runner’s World and other fitness publications. Most recently, he has created the app RunWise for pace adjustments due to weather conditions and software that interfaces with cutting edge sensor technology (www.vayu.tech) to provide exercises to improve performance for runners.

Jorge Maravilla – Two-time consecutive Winner of BSFM – his name translates to Marvelous! Jorge emigrated from El Salvador with his mother to the San Joaquin Valley. As a child, he would run through the farmlands where his mother worked which instilled a lifelong love for running and the outdoors. Come hear our hometown heroes motivational talk!

2:00pm – Race Day Nutrition

Greg McMillan is an Elite Coach and UCAN Ambassador. He is a National Champion runner with a background in exercise science. He has created McMillian training which is a scientifically-based, proven training method. Renowned by runners and coaches across the globe, he has one of the most diverse coaching resumes, with equal success coaching new runners, age groupers, Boston Qualifiers and Olympians!

Dr. Krista Austin is a sport scientist, exercise physiologist and nutritionist who has served as an industry consultant and performance specialist for professional and Olympic sport athletes. Dr. Austin has worked for the United States Olympic Committee, the English Institute of Sport, England’s Cricket team and multiple national governing bodies of sport, including USA Taekwondo, USA Triathlon, USA Wrestling and USA Canoe/Kayak. Her recent work includes research on dietary supplement use in military populations, assessing the relevance of sport science applications in special operations populations, and performing validation of occupational physical assessments for the U.S. Marine Corps. Dr. Austin received her B.A. in Physical Education, Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology, and Ph.D in Movement Science. Austin is also a certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
