2nd Half Marathon – “The City Half”

Finish Line: Embarcadero at Folsom (Full Marathon finish line)
Distance: 13.1 miles with a 3.5-hour time limit.

The 2nd Half Marathon course is USATF-certified. What You’ll Experience: The 2nd Half Marathon,  “The City Half” is a local favorite. With a start in Golden Gate Park near the ocean, it winds through the Golden Gate Park around Stow Lake and past the Conservatory of Flower before finding your way to iconic city neighborhoods with a finish at the official San Francisco Marathon Finish Line—and with a later start time and faster route, runners have more time to take in the festivities! This unique and memorable route is packed with experiences, including:

  • The Start Line is located at Golden Gate Park near Murphy Windmill.
  • Refreshing Bay breezes with Eucalyptus in the air – a constant while running marathons in San Francisco.
  • Picturesque views of Stow Lake, the de Young Museum, and the Conservatory of Flowers.
  • Iconic Haight Street!
  • Historic Mission District and the newly developed Mission Bay District.
  • Up-close views of major league sports stadiums, including homes of the Golden State Warriors and the San Francisco Giants.
  • Positive energy from spectators at the finish line and along the Bay Bridge.

What You Need to Know: Runner Shuttle Buses will pick up runners from 6:50 am to 7:50 am in 5 to 10 min. intervals from the Main Start Line near the Embarcadero at Howard St. and Spear St., and drop off within walking distance from the start line of the 2nd Half Marathon, at Lincoln Way between La Playa St. and 48th Ave.

2nd Half Marathon Details

  • Start time, location and corral details
    Start Time: 8:30 am*,  MLK Jr. Drive @Golden Gate Park 

    All runners need to be in their assigned starting corral before the official race start time. *Corral times and locations are subject to change.

  • Course Limits
    In order to qualify as an Official 2nd Half Marathon Finisher, you must finish within the 3.5 hour course limit.
  • Water/Fuel Stops & Medical Care
    The 2nd Half Marathon includes 10 water stops where you can find water, Nuun electrolytes, medical, and toilets. Water Stop 3 includes Chargel energy gel.

    *All water stops will have water monster refill stations.

  • Need to know
    In an effort to reduce waste and work toward being a sustainable event, heat sheets will not be provided at the finish line.  Our medical team will have them available if the weather is cold and foggy. We encourage you to pack a warm lightweight item that can fit in your drop bag that you can put on post-race. We appreciate your understanding and help in reducing our footprint.

  • Drop-off Points
    If you are getting a ride in on race day, the best drop-off point is Lincoln Blvd. between Montgomery St and Anza Ave, in The Presidio. Pick up for the 2nd Half Marathon Finish:  Mission at Main St. or Washington St. at Drum St.
  • Awards
    The top 3 overall and the top 3 Men, Women, and NB+ division winners in the 2nd Half marathon will receive digital 3D awards via email when the results are finalized, 3 to 6 weeks post-race.
