The San Francisco Marathon • July 23 and 24 2022

The 45th running of The San Francisco Marathon will take place on July 23rd and 24th 2022. This USA Track & Field-certified Boston Marathon and Olympic Team Trials qualifier race attracts top endurance athletes and a fantastic community of runners from around the country and the globe. The race prides itself on its unique nature; like the city itself the race is more individual, the course more challenging, the terrain more beautiful – an event Bart Yasso, Chief Running Officer of Runner’s World, referred to as “challenging and beautiful…one of the country’s best big city marathons.” The San Francisco Marathon proudly hosts over 25,000 runners and rewards their efforts with unparalleled breathtaking views and a unique course that they will never forget.

Who We Are

Jumping Fences Inc. is an event management company and the producer of The San Francisco Marathon. In addition to producing the nation’s 14th largest marathon, JFI produces other athletic events and manages RUN365, the Official Club Training Program of The San Francisco Marathon, Virtual365 and Berkeley Half Marathon.

Our History

The San Francisco Marathon on July 23rd, 2017 marked the 40th Anniversary of its inception in 1977. Like the city it calls home, The San Francisco Marathon has grown and improved in remarkable ways over the years. Ranked the 14th largest marathon in the nation, the event grew from 5,000 runners in 2001 to attracting more than 27,500 runners and 80,000 spectator attendees in 2017. What to Expect on Race Day

The San Francisco Marathon will fill the streets of San Francisco with over 27,500 runners and 80,000 spectators on Sunday, July 26, 2020. The course celebrates San Francisco and takes runners on an unforgettable running tour of the city, whether runners run along the waterfront, cross the Golden Gate Bridge, pass historic landmarks or explore the local neighborhoods.
