Debuting at The San Francisco Marathon in 2016, the Golden Gate Bridge Climb Segment Challenge is an opportunity for runners to race each other in a “sprint within a marathon,” a half-mile stretch of the course, which leads up to the Golden Gate Bridge.
Climbing quickly from Crissy Field to the roadbed of Golden Gate Bridge, this segment of the course includes the steepest hill climb of the entire 26.2-mile full marathon course or the entire 13.1-mile 1st Half Marathon course.
With live leaderboards in the Race Weekend App, and segment splits highlighted in each digital finisher badge as runners cross the finish line, it will be easy to track how runners are performing on the segment challenge as both the 1st Half Marathon and Full Marathon runners complete this challenging stretch of their race.
Built for the everyday runner, segment challenge winners must be non-elite athletes, giving novice athletes an opportunity to be the “fastest” as a part of The San Francisco Marathon.
Segment End Point: Mile 5.5
