Running for a Cause: Meet Danae, Fundraising for the SF Marin Food Bank

Did you know that you can run and do good at the same time? That’s exactly what Danae Andrea Labraña is doing at the 2026 San Francisco Marathon. She’s running the full marathon and fundraising for the SF Marin Food Bank. Danae is the Director of Marketing and Promotions for Alice 97.3. and an avid runner.

“With food insecurity being at a critical high, and so many experiencing difficulty accessing enough nutritious food due to rising costs of living, high inflation, and the decline in assistance programs, the station and I want to do our part in bringing awareness to the SF Marin Food Bank and help raise funds to an organization that is near to our hearts,” wrote Danae on her fundraising page.

The Who and Why

1. What inspired you to run for this cause?

The SF Marin Food Bank tackles a critical, close-to-home cause, holding a special place in our hearts. As a local Bay Area radio station, we are committed to supporting their vital mission to eradicate hunger in our beautiful city of San Francisco and Marin Counties.

2. Who or what are you running for?

I am running on behalf of my station Alice 97.3 to help raise funds and awareness for the San Francisco Marin Food Bank!

3. What does crossing the finish line mean to you personally?

As a first-time marathon runner, crossing that finish line represents more than just 26.2 miles. It’s the culmination of months of grit and commitment, and the ultimate proof that dedication turns ‘impossible’ into reality!

4. How will the funds you raise make a difference?

Alice 97.3 and I hope to help get the San Francisco Marin Food Bank just a little bit closer to their mission of ending hunger in the SF and Marin counties. No one deserves to go hungry and we want to do our part to assist however we can.

5. What’s been the hardest part of training or fundraising?

As a first-time fundraiser, I’ve learned so much about the process! While navigating the logistics was challenging, I’m so excited to have learned how to create a meaningful campaign and effectively spread the word for this cause.

Training has felt pretty natural given my running background, but the biggest challenge has definitely been learning how to pace. I love pushing the pace early, but my first long run taught me that holding back in the beginning is essential to avoid burning out later! My mantra has become “slow and steady wins the race”.

6. What keeps you going on tough days?

What helps me keep going is reconnecting with my “why” and remembering why I signed up for the Marathon in the first place. When I’m burnt out and exhausted, spread so thin all I want to do is lie down… I just focus back on the cause behind it all and remember that I have so many people that are rooting for me.

I have my entire station supporting me! That always helps to get me moving. That, and knowing that if I run a quick handful of miles I’ll feel less guilty about all the cookies I like to eat (:

7. What would you say to someone thinking about fundraising for a future race?

Find a cause that really aligns with you and your passions. There are so many beautiful charities out there doing incredible, selfless work. Finding one that you resonate with will help drive you more than you know!

Rapid Fire!

Coffee before long runs?

Not for me!

Favorite training song?

It really depends on the day! I have a playlist full of uptempo/tech house bangers that I usually just shuffle through. Currently “Think About Us” by Sonny Fodera is one of my favs.

Race-day mantra?

“After this, cookies. After this, cookies.”

What aspect of the race will test you most?

I think we’ll find out on race day! Not totally sure what is going to put me to the test the most as this is my first marathon but I’m excited to find out(:
