The City and County of San Francisco has led the charge and helped flatten the curve, yet there is still more to be done and the health and safety of our participants, staff and volunteers is always our first priority. Following further discussions with the City and County of San Francisco, we have made the decision to reschedule the San Francisco Marathon to November 15, 2020. We are grateful for the support of the City and County for their flexibility and assistance in selecting this new date to ensure our runners can still enjoy this iconic City event. We are working to implement new race day safety measures that we will share over the coming months.

The SF Bay Area is leading the way “in bending the curve” which makes us very hopeful that we will be able to hold our race in July.
These are unprecedented times for everyone, individuals and businesses alike. As a small business, we remain focused on supporting our runners as we have for the past 20 years while continuing to sustain our business needs in these uncertain times.
While our race is still over 4 months away and we remain hopefully optimistic, we are planning for what may happen – we are just not certain what that is. We appreciate each and every runner and you are our main concern, and we are grateful for your patience in these uncertain times. We will keep you updated as we are able. We are actively working on a contingency plan for our runners.
We have launched our San Francisco Marathon Virtual race option, that all registered runners will be able to convert their current registration to at no charge. Runners will still receive their participation items (shirt and medal) plus any other items you earned, such as free items when registering as well as loyal runner and referral gifts. We are currently working on the process for this conversion, look for an email from us in the coming weeks with details on how you can convert. There is no action required at this time.
Should the governing agencies cancel the event we will work with the Federal, State and City governments to best determine our next steps.
What can you do right now?
We have launched themed virtual races where you can challenge yourself and stay tuned up for our race in July. You’ll earn a shirt and medal and we have a leaderboard where you can post your results. Bonus, our amazing sponsors have given us some super cool swag to raffle off!
Be on the lookout for our Tuesday Training Tip emails which will focus on exercises you can do at home or outside while practicing social distancing.
Since Tuesday, March 17th, San Francisco, like many other cities, has been under a shelter in place mandate. We are hopeful that this action helps flatten the curve and that we are able to resume our normal activities soon.
Our race is over 4 months away and we remain hopefully optimistic that we will be able to hold the race. We are delaying the decision to cancel or postpone as long as possible.
We know how hard you have been training for this race and how excited you are to run SF this summer. If this cannot happen, we are researching options. We will update our runners in the coming weeks as we know more.
Staying active is both good for you physically as well as mentally in these stressful times so please take a moment to review our training tips page. We will continue with our Training Tip Tuesday emails and add exercises that can be done at home or outside while practicing social distancing.
Don’t forget to reach out to your fellow runners, family, friends and neighbors during this time to see if they need help. We will get through this together.

With regard to COVID-19, the health and safety of our runners is always our first priority. We are in active communication with state, county and city officials and are monitoring the situation closely. At this time, with five months to the event, there are no changes to our 43rd annual event weekend, July 24-26, 2020. If anything changes we will communicate updates through our email, website and social channels.
